Part of a terrace row of heritage significance, the rear of this terrace has been extended to provide for contemporary, environmentally sustainable living, within walking distance to Bondi Junction’s retail centre. A new living area and kitchen is added on the ground level opening out to the rear yard and sculptured around a new side courtyard. A void and skylight over the kitchen space allows natural light and ventilation deep within the centre of the plan and a bridge provides access to an additional bathroom and bedroom to the rear upper level. Sustainable building materials, water reuse, green walls and photovoltaic system have been incorporated into the active systems within the house. The rear facade has been compressed into a series of vertical bands of tonal colours as a miniature reference to the terrace row house typology.
